I wanted to go with a magazine with a goofy Halloween theme, and after finding this image of two zombies making out I quickly came up with my idea.

My magazine is a fictional magazine set in a zombie universe. It's like "Cosmopolitan" for a zombies. Buy it at a newsstand near you, for the low price of "Three Fingers."

Happy Halloween Journos! from Ben Levy!

So, I hope that the purpose of this project is pretty clear. It’s meant to be a mock Life Magazine. In the Halloween spirit, I’ve called the magazine Death and given it a bit of a morbid twist. In design and content, I wanted it to be pretty clear what is going on. –Obviously the Life magazine cover’s aesthetic is iconic and almost ingrained into our visual memories, so the devil was in the details for this project. The cover is deceivingly simple and it took hours of precise manipulation of the design elements to get everything just right. It’s a testament to the intentions of the Life magazine creators that it took me so long to replicate it.

Here is the era of the Life covers that I based this one one:

Paying homage to one of my favorite video games of all time, I designed this Electronic Gaming Monthly Magazine Cover, featuring Old Snake aka. Solid Snake. When I was younger, I subscribed to EGM Magazine, and I always thought the covers were so cool. While EGM covers tend to have a lot going on, somehow the designers always managed to create a clean and organized cover. And so, I decided I wanted my cover to embody the EGM design style in addition to utilizing the principles of CRAP.

Vanessa Rottet's Special Edition "Halloween PLAYBOY" Magazine Cover

Vanessa Rottet's Project Brief:
I had so much fun with this project! I seriously did it right away on last Wednesday after class. I love creating magazine covers! This one is special for Playboy - a Halloween edition! I thought it was a great idea, and I could be pretty creative while designing it. I am pretty much obsessed with the new girls next door, and wanted to incorporate them in the magazine cover.
The audience that this is geared towards is men and women 21+ who enjoy Playboy. This edition is for the ultimate fans - since it only comes out once a year! The rulers and guides were a HUGE help to my magazine (I don't know what I would have done without them!). I kept alignment with the help of the rulers and I kept consistency by using the same type throughout the magazine cover.
I believe that this project would be very attractive to the audience it is promoted to, and it is not "too aggressive" with the front page picture. When someone thinks of Playboy, they automatically think nude. But that is not only what Playboy is! It is classy and sophisticated, and above all, FUN! Happy Halloween! What will YOU be?!

For my infographic, I was trying to get the message of safety across to bikers. I just recently began mountain biking and realized that all of these items are essential incase of any damage to your bike when riding. This happens often, leaving many bikers stuck out in the middle of nowhere, with a broken bike. To help convey my message I took small graphics of each of the items and priced them accordingly. This way, when the biker goes to get all of the necessary supplies, they know exactly what they are looking for. For my overall design, I did not want to make it too cluttered leaving just enough space to make the layout fulfill its purpose. I also wanted to make it look fun, yet serious. I think that with the mix of the font and colors, my inforgraphic does just that.

Khoi Nguyen - Michael Jordan Tribute Infographic

Michael Jordan Tribute Infographic

The main idea that I had for my infographic was simple. I wanted to create a time-line that chronicled my favorite, and your favorite player's favorite player, Michael Jordan's career in the NBA. As a tribute to his Airness, I decided to compile a time-line in a unique way that included his greatest accomplishments set parallel to a highlight 'reel' of images.

I'm a food guy, and I guess I had pork sandwiches on the brain on the first day of this assignment. When I came across the photo used here, everything else just fell into place. I read food mags, so I had a general idea of how I wanted the thing to look. After editing the photo, I moved on to font selection, which took a while. There are 6 different fonts here; I wanted that look, but they all had to work together, so that was a chore. All of the font colors are pulled from the image, but when I started messing around with gradient backgrounds, I really liked he contrasting colors in the background. After adding a drop shadow under the image, the dotted lines, and some highlight on the title, I was done.
